A new Planet Fitness gym was established in Cavendish Square Mall in Cape Town. The engineer required a lightweight building material to minimise the additional load on the existing mall slab, making Aertec AAC the clear specification choice.
Gym fit-outs in existing retail structures present specific structural challenges: the new walls must minimise slab loading while providing acoustic separation between the gym space and adjacent retail tenants. Aertec AAC met both requirements — lightweight at 400 kg/m³ and with excellent acoustic performance for the gym application.
The fire resistance of Aertec AAC was also a critical factor for the mall application, ensuring compliance with the building's fire safety requirements for tenant fit-outs.
