AAC was invented in 1924 and has been the dominant walling material across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia for decades. It became the go-to reconstruction material after World War II because it is faster to build with, at lower cost, and with better thermal and seismic performance than conventional masonry. This is why it now has a 60% walling market penetration in Germany and 40% in the UK.
The raw materials are sand, cement, lime, gypsum and water — widely available, non-toxic, and low CO2 impact compared with clay brick firing. This combination of natural raw material inputs and autoclaving in the manufacturing process is what gives AAC its green credentials.
On a South African project, that global performance record is now available with a locally supplied AAC product in accordance with EN 771-4 / SANS 50771-4 — with full data sheets, local technical support, and delivery from Cape Town and Durban direct to site.
