House — Bishops Court

House — Bishops Court

The Bishops Court house had previously been constructed with dry walling for all external and internal walls. The client decided to replace the dry walling with Aertec AAC during the renovation, recognising AAC as a superior, more durable alternative that would deliver significantly better thermal and acoustic performance.

Dry walling provides limited thermal insulation and acoustic performance compared to Aertec AAC, which has 7.5× better thermal insulation than clay brick and delivers substantially higher acoustic attenuation ratings. The renovation client also valued AAC's durability and resistance to moisture — addressing a known weakness of dry walling in the Cape Town environment.

The project demonstrates the growing awareness among South African homeowners of AAC's performance advantages compared to lightweight partition systems, particularly for external and boundary walls where thermal and weather performance are critical.
