Heron Square is an adaptive reuse project in Cape Town, converting an existing structure for student housing accommodation. Aertec AAC was specified for the refurbishment partitioning based on its lightweight properties — minimising additional load on the existing structure — and its ability to deliver a fast, low-disruption installation in a renovation environment.
The project involved the creation of individual student rooms within an existing building shell, requiring accurate, acoustically effective partitioning that could be installed quickly in the constrained spaces of a refurbishment project. Aertec AAC's precision dimensions and thin-bed system made it ideal for this application.
The Heron Square project demonstrates the growing use of Aertec AAC in adaptive reuse and conversion projects, where its lightweight properties and fast installation are particularly valuable in working around existing structural constraints.
