A creative application of Aertec AAC: the developer of this Cape Town CBD building specified AAC as the construction medium for rooftop garden planter boxes, utilising the material's lightweight properties to minimise the imposed load on the existing roof structure.
At 400 kg/m³ — approximately one quarter the weight of clay brick — Aertec AAC planter boxes significantly reduce the structural load compared to conventional masonry planters. This is critical for rooftop garden applications where the existing roof structure may have limited capacity for additional loading.
The project demonstrates the versatility of Aertec AAC in non-standard applications, where the material's lightweight properties offer engineering advantages beyond the conventional wall and partition application.
